NRCIA History
Due to the rising demand of the real estate community, the association began in 1995 as the National Roof Certification Association® to develop the standards and code of ethics for which a roof certification could be issued. In 2001, the association licensed the rights to the patent-pending process of inspecting and certifying a roof. On January 10th, 2002, the United States Government granted the rights to NRCIA to issue LeakFREE® Roof Certifications. At that time, the association changed its charter and name to include inspections, thus becoming the National Roof Certification and Inspection Association (NRCIA).
In 2021, we re-launched the organization to include all facets of roof certification, inspection, and repair as the NRCIA to provide nationwide standards. With the momentum of success behind us, our vision of providing a solid, long-term solution to the scattered and unregulated roofing industry has become a reality. Our members are the top roofers and inspectors in their regions, who undergo training in our certification and inspection protocols. Their commitment to the NRCIA standards assures buyers, sellers, agents, banks, and insurance companies that when they receive a LeakFREE® Roof Certification, they will have the confidence that their asset is protected.
Think Like a Raindrop™
Rooted in a simple lesson passed down from father to son, “Think Like a Raindrop™” has become the guiding philosophy behind NRCIA’s standards. It reminds every certified inspector to see the roof through nature’s eyes — to anticipate where water will go, where it might find weakness, and how true protection begins long before the first storm. This mindset of foresight, integrity, and professionalism continues to shape the NRCIA’s mission: to elevate roofing from a trade into a trusted profession.
