Yes, any licensed roofing contractor can make the repairs

When an inspection finds that a roof falls short of the LeakFREE® criteria, the member issues a written report listing what needs correcting. You are free to hire whoever you want to do that work. NRCIA does not restrict who repairs your roof, and no rule requires a member to bring a roof up to the LeakFREE® roof certification criteria.

What changes is the paperwork that follows.

Why a re-inspection is required after non-member repairs

If the repairs are made by a contractor who is not an NRCIA member, a second inspection by a member is required before the roof can be evaluated against the LeakFREE® roof certification criteria again. The member who signs a certificate is putting their own accreditation behind it. They cannot vouch for work they did not perform and did not watch.

That re-inspection is a real cost, and it is not always a single visit. When the corrections come back partial, the roof gets looked at again. Two or three rounds of inspect, repair, re-inspect is where owners find themselves spending more than the repair was worth.

Why members handle it differently

An NRCIA member working from the report already knows the criteria the roof is being measured against, because they were trained on those criteria. The scope is written in the language they use every day. There is no interpretation gap between what the report asked for and what the crew installed, which is the gap that usually triggers a second round.

Members also work through InspectionPLUS®, so the corrected findings and the resulting certificate stay in one registered record. A certificate generated outside that platform is not valid.

What the LeakFREE® roof certification criteria actually confirm

A LeakFREE® Roof Certification records that a specific roof, at a specific address, met the published criteria on a specific date. It is not insurance, not a service contract, and not a promise about future performance. The term is set by the findings, the slope, the materials and the condition of the roof, up to a maximum of ten years, and the expiration is printed as a date.

LeakFREE® is our federally registered trademark. Only NRCIA members can issue a LeakFREE® certification.

A practical order of operations

  1. Get the written LeakFREE® Roof Inspection Report and read the correction list.
  2. Decide who does the work. Compare the repair quote against the cost of a likely re-inspection cycle.
  3. If you use a non-member contractor, keep the invoices and photographs. They shorten the re-inspection.
  4. Schedule the follow-up inspection with an accredited member once the work is complete.

Find someone accredited

Whether you are hiring for the repair or just for the follow-up inspection, the member directory lists accredited members by region.
