Initial Inspection Deadline Extension

Effective September 28, 2024

Bill Text – AB-2579 Inspections: exterior elevated elements. (ca.gov)This bill would extend the deadline for initial inspection until January 1, 2026. The bill would also provide that no new inspection is required until January 1, 2026, if the property was inspected within 3 years prior to January 1, 2019, as specified.



Licensed civil engineers can conduct SB 326 inspections

Effective July 15, 2024

Authorizes licensed civil engineers to conduct the SB 326 inspections.



Inspectors Can Perform Repairs

Effective: January 1st, 2022

Section Title: Amending SB 721, CA SB 607 does not prohibit the inspector on file from performing the restorative repairs. 

(g) An exterior elevated element found by the inspector that is in need of repair or replacement shall be corrected by the owner of the building. All necessary permits for repair or replacement shall be obtained from the local jurisdiction. All repair and replacement work shall be performed by a qualified and licensed contractor in compliance with all of the following:

(1) The recommendations of a licensed professional described in subdivision (a).

(2) Any applicable manufacturer’s specifications.

(3) The California Building Standards Code, consistent with subdivision (d) of Section 17922 of the Health and Safety Code.

(4) All local jurisdictional requirements.
