NRCIA Accreditation · Forensic Roof Inspector

ForensicGUARD™

When the cause is disputed, somebody has to be right. Carriers, attorneys and builders do not hire an opinion, they hire a documented finding that survives the other side reading it.

Certification work is priced against your time. Forensic work is priced against what is at stake.

When a roof is in dispute, somebody has to say what happened and stand behind it. ForensicGUARD™ is the credential that puts your name on that answer.

What you are authorized to perform

Six inspection types. Six deliverables. No overlap.

Six services. Each one is an inspection you are authorized to perform and a document only a member can issue.

Insurance carriers and their counsel. Plaintiff and defense attorneys in construction litigation. Builders and general contractors defending allegations. Owners and associations pursuing them.

Forensic findings are commissioned because somebody expects to be challenged on them. The work includes supporting your documentation through that challenge.

Everything RoofGUARD™ authorizes, including the LeakFREE® certification, plus StormCHECK™ storm inspections.

How you get in

Two routes. Neither of them is buying it.

ForensicGUARD™ is the one program with a genuine gate in front of it. A forensic finding is only worth what the person who wrote it is worth, and the entry requirement is what protects that.

  1. An active business entity, or documented authorization to inspect under a licensed contractor's umbrella.
  2. General liability insurance, $1,000,000 minimum per occurrence, plus Workers' Compensation.
  3. Errors and omissions insurance, $1,000,000 minimum per occurrence. This one matters more here than anywhere else in the association.
  4. Proof of bond, with NRCIA named as additional insured where commercially available.
  5. No felony conviction within seven years, and no professional license revocation in any state within three.
  6. Physical capability for a five-zone inspection: interior, attic, exterior, perimeter, rooftop.
  7. Executed agreement to the NRCIA Code of Ethics, including conflict-of-interest disclosure. Conflict disclosure is not a formality in forensic work.

  1. Submit your application

Program selection, business details and required documentation.

  2. Documentation verified

Insurance certificates, proof of bond and license documentation checked against program requirements.

  3. Background disclosure reviewed

Your attestation is reviewed. NRCIA reserves the right to independently verify.

  4. Ethics commitment executed

Code of Ethics and conflict-of-interest disclosure signed and logged to your file.

  5. Approved, or returned with deficiencies

If something is missing, you get it back with specifics, not a rejection letter.

  6. Membership checkout, then portal access

Once you are accepted you complete membership checkout. Designation issued, directory profile live, Academy and InspectionPLUS® open.

  • 12 consecutive months as an active Certified Roof Inspector. Consecutive matters, a lapse resets it.
  • 50 documented reports filed through your member portal.
  • Standing in good order, with continuing education current.

  • Five years of demonstrated forensic or investigative experience in roofing or building systems.
  • Evaluation by an NRCIA Master Forensic Inspector. A person reviews your work, not a form.
  • Approval at panel discretion. Meeting the criteria makes you eligible for review. It does not entitle you to admission.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Only through alternative eligibility, and only at panel discretion. That route requires five years of demonstrated forensic or investigative experience plus evaluation by an NRCIA Master Forensic Inspector. Meeting the stated criteria makes you eligible to be reviewed. It does not entitle you to admission, and the panel can decline.

For most applicants the standard route is the more certain one: RoofGUARD™, twelve consecutive active months, fifty filed reports, then ForensicGUARD™.

No. Expert qualification is determined by the court, case by case, against that court's standard. What ForensicGUARD™ provides is a documented Accreditation, a published standard your work was performed against, a verifiable designation and a filed record of your inspection history. Those are the materials qualification is argued from. The determination is not ours to make.

Fifty inspection reports filed through your member portal as an active Certified Roof Inspector, across the twelve consecutive qualifying months. The portal tracks the count as you work, so you can see where you stand at any point rather than reconstructing it later.

Yes, and the errors and omissions requirement carries more weight in forensic work than anywhere else in the association. Members remain responsible for every license, registration, certification, permit, insurance, training and qualification requirement that applies to their services and their jurisdictions. Accreditation sits alongside those obligations, never in place of them.
